Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, expected to launch next year, is set to feature a significant camera upgrade with three 48-megapixel rear cameras, according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In his latest investor note published on Medium, Kuo outlined the key enhancements expected in the upcoming flagship device, particularly focusing on the upgraded Tetraprism camera technology.

Kuo revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be equipped with a 48-megapixel Tetraprism camera, designed to deliver superior photo quality and advanced zoom capabilities. This new camera system will reportedly utilise a 1/2.6-inch 48-megapixel CIS sensor, a considerable improvement over the 1/3.1-inch 12-megapixel sensor anticipated for the iPhone 16 Pro models set to debut this year.

In addition to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature Tetraprism telephoto lenses. This technology, previously exclusive to the larger Pro Max models, will reportedly be available in both Pro variants. The iPhone 16 Pro models are projected to offer at least 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom.

Kuo also mentioned the possibility that the upgraded Tetraprism camera might be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max initially. If this exclusivity holds, the advanced camera technology will likely be extended to both iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026. The development of the upgraded Tetraprism camera involves designing new prisms with a shorter form factor, reducing the camera module’s height. This report aligns with previous claims made by Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities.

In recent times, Pu has reported that the iPhone 16 Pro models will also sport a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens. This upgrade would position the iPhone 17 Pro Max as the first iPhone with an entirely 48-megapixel rear camera system, including main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. In comparison, the current iPhone 15 Pro models feature a mix of 48-megapixel main, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and 12-megapixel telephoto lenses.

The iPhone 16 series is expected to make its debut in September this year. Apple has a track record of launching new iPhones in September and the same is expected to happen with the 2024 devices as well.

OnePlus Nord 4 Software Support Window Announced

Ahead of the upcoming OnePlus Summer Launch event that will take place on July 16 at 6:30pm IST, the company has created a microsite on its website teasing various details of the upcoming devices. The OnePlus Nord 4 is scheduled to receive four Android OS updates, which means that it will get the same number of OS updates as the OnePlus 12, the company's current-generation flagship smartphone.

The four-year update window matches that of the OnePlus 12 as well as rivals Samsung's midrange smartphones such as the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35. Unlike these handsets, which are promised to get five years of security updates, OnePlus says the Nord 4 will get six years of security patches. However, the company hasn't revealed whether these will be rolled out on a monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly basis.

OnePlus Nord Battery Longevity Features Revealed

OnePlus has also confirmed that the Nord 4 will be equipped with a battery with improved longevity compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus Nord 3. It is certified to retain over 80 percent of its capacity over a four-year period, after 1,600 charging cycles, according to the company.

While the company is yet to reveal all of the smartphone's specifications, including the actual battery capacity, recent reports have given us a fair idea of what to expect from the OnePlus Nord 4. It is said to run on a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset from Qualcomm, pack a 5,500mAh battery, and sport an AMOLED screen with a 1.5K resolution. Realme GT 5 Pro debuted last month in China as the company’s latest flagship device. The smartphone comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, up to 24GB of RAM, 4,500 nits peak brightness, 100W fast charging and the 50MP Sony LYT-T808 sensor. There’s no official announcement on the Realme GT 5 Pro launch but the company has hinted on the phone’s arrival in India.

Realme GT 5 Pro India launch expected

• In a reply to a question on X, Realme Head of Product Marketing, Francis Wong, confirmed the Realme GT series will make a comeback to India this year.
• The reply was to a question about bringing the Realme GT 5 Pro in India to which Wong said, “We know how GT series were expected and we will bring it back in 2024.”
• The specific device hasn’t been mentioned but it’s most likely the Realme GT 5 Pro smartphone. A launch timeline is yet to be confirmed as well. 
• The last Realme GT series that launched in India was the Realme GT Neo 3. The brand has focused more on its number with the Realme 11 Pro series slated to launch soon. But we might just be getting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Realme GT 5 Pro in India soon. 

Since the Realme GT 5 Pro has already launched in China we’re expecting the same set of specs in India as well. In terms of pricing, the Realme GT 5 Pro starts at CNY 3,399 (Rs 39,800 approx) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It comes in three colour options of Red Rock (orange), Starry Night (black) and Bright Moon (white). The Orange and White variants have a leather finish on the back, while the Black one comes in a matte finish.
